We’re Activating W1AW/Portable!
The Kingsport Amateur Radio Club will operate as W1AW/Portable from Warriors’ Path State Park on June 13th as part of the ARRL America250 Worked All States event — a year-long on-air celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
This is a great opportunity to put Tennessee on the map for hunters chasing the America250 WAS award. We need operators for one-hour slots throughout the day!
Sign Up to Operate
Operating slots run from noon to 6:00 PM. Each slot is one hour — sign up for one or grab a few back-to-back if you want more time on the air.

You can operate phone, CW, or digital — whatever you’re comfortable with. Club equipment will be available on site.
What is America250 WAS?
ARRL America250 Worked All States is a year-long special event running throughout 2026 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
W1AW/Portable stations will activate all 50 states during the year. Hunters contact as many state activations as possible and apply for the award through Logbook of The World (LoTW). All contacts must be uploaded to LoTW to count.
Three endorsements are available:
- Contact W1AW/Portable in all 50 states
- Contact ARRL Affiliated Club stations in all 50 states
- Work all 50 states on CW, Phone, and Digital (Triple Play)
When we operate from Warriors’ Path, every QSO we make puts Tennessee in the log for hunters all over the country working toward their America250 WAS.
What to Expect On Site
- Club HF and VHF stations set up at the park
- Operating on multiple bands and modes — all authorized HF/VHF/UHF bands except 60 meters
- A relaxed, casual atmosphere — come operate, watch, or just hang out
If you’ve never operated a special event station before, this is a great first time. Experienced operators will be on hand.
