N4I On the Air from the Netherland Inn
October 17, 2026
Every year, the Kingsport Amateur Radio Club sets up special event station N4I at the historic Netherland Inn. This year was no exception: we spent the day on the air, met people, and made contacts across the country and beyond.
A little history
The site was built in 1802 as a boat yard for shipping salt. It was later sold, and in 1818 it became the Netherland Inn, a stop for travelers on the way from Middle Tennessee to Western Kentucky. More than two hundred years later, it’s still a great place to tell its story over the radio.
The setup
We ran two stations this year:
| Band | Radio | Antenna |
|---|---|---|
| 40M | Yaesu FT-991A | Wolf River Coil vertical |
| 20M | Icom IC-7300 | End-fed half-wave tossed into a nearby tree |
How the day went
Over six hours on the air, we logged 28 contacts. Operators took turns at the radios throughout the day, and plenty of folks stopped by just to visit.

A big thank you to Kyle (KR4ABN) and Heather (KR4ABM) for organizing the event, setting up the radios and antennas, and keeping everyone fed. We hope to see you all again next year!
